Wow. This might cause Coke to think again. It made me think twice.

Greenpeace have created a knockout ad. And it’s all about plastic bottles. Coke is in the firing line as the biggest perpetuator of plastic bottles around.

Is your Heart Worth it?

Many of us still believe that conscious awareness originates in the brain alone.

Recent scientific research suggests that consciousness actually emerges from the brain and body acting together. A growing body of evidence suggests that the heart plays a particularly significant role in this process.

Far more than a simple pump, as was once believed, the heart is now recognized by scientists as a highly complex system with its own functional “brain.”

Research in the new discipline of neurocardiology shows that the heart is a sensory organ and a sophisticated center for receiving and processing information. The nervous system within the heart (or “heart brain”) enables it to learn, remember, and make functional decisions independent of the brain’s cerebral cortex. Moreover, numerous experiments have demonstrated that the signals the heart continuously sends to the brain influence the function of higher brain centers involved in perception, cognition, and emotional processing.

In addition to the extensive neural communication network linking the heart with the brain and body, the heart also communicates information to the brain and throughout the body via electromagnetic field interactions. The heart generates the body’s most powerful and most extensive rhythmic electromagnetic field. Compared to the electromagnetic field produced by the brain, the electrical component of the heart’s field is about 60 times greater in amplitude, and permeates every cell in the body. The magnetic component is approximately 5000 times stronger than the brain’s magnetic field and can be detected several feet away from the body with sensitive magnetometers.

I’ve just completed a study of 100+scientific reports on the effects of alkaline water. High in the results is protection of the heart. I’m also aware that the vast majority of people are magnesium deficient, and magnesium is our best heart food. Something I picked up from the studies was the fact that waterborne magnesium is far more efficiently absorbed than food-borne magnesium. We’ve made magnesium the basic ionizing and alkalizing media for the new UltraStream partially to allocate the importance this humble mineral deserves. It’s a radical shift from the mineral scavenging method used in electrolysis water ionizers but – I believe – a large move forward. Also, given the above facts about the electrical and magnetic component of the heart, a regular supply of energy in the form of free hydrogen delivered in alkaline ionized water is, in my opinion, a Godsend.

Vitamin K2 Bone effect validated: Osteoporosis results

bodyAs many of my readers know, I had a rather unwelcome surprise fifteen months ago when I had a mild ‘ankle sprain’ fall off my son’s skateboard. The result? Broken leg, and after a Dexa scan, I was informed I had severe osteoporosis. A great gift after 13 years on the alkaline diet and much of the reason for Cassie’s innovation, the Alkaline Paleo Diet.

Well, I had my latest Dexa scan a month ago and my pelvis is around 8% better which is apparently good. But I can say that it wasn’t my alkaline ionized water that did it, even though i still love my water – but Cassie’s research and her bon-friendly supplementation of Vitamins K2, D and A.

K2 is also available from dairy cows on green grass, and from their meat. We are lucky enough to have a good supply of grass fed beef, and I’m supplementing daily.

I think this extract from a company site sums up the role of K2 better than i can, particularly the ‘calcium paradox’.  I’ve been concerned for quite some time at how the body manages our calcium so that it goes where it is supposed to you instead of becoming an atherosclerosis risk factor.

“Vitamin K2 MK-7 plays a crucial role in the calcium balance and aids the optimal distribution of calcium in the body.

Several recent high profile studies have reported an increased risk of cardiovascular disease associated with high calcium intake from particularly dietary supplements in men & women.
MGP – the strongest known inhibitor of arterial calcification  – is activated by vitamin K2 MK-7 and works by binding calcium. As a consequence, it inhibits calcium from depositing in the arterial cell wall.
Osteocalcin is synthesized inside the bone forming cell where it is activated by the presence of Vitamin K2, MK-7. Upon this activation it can bind calcium efficiently and contribute to the formation of a stronger bone structure (hydroxyapatite). The “calcium paradox” describes the relationship between osteoporosis and atherosclerosis – a phenomenon that largely can be explained by lack of activation of osteocalcin and MGP.With the presence of vitamin K2 MK-7, sufficient activation of osteocalcin and MGP takes place. Calcium is removed from the blood stream and tied up into the bone mass.”

As promised, here’s the latest scientific report on the bone building effect of K2.

Worth a read by every sugar-addicted acidic human of median age.

Prostate sufferers: good news?

As a sufferer of  Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, I have a secret. It’s share  only between certain men. I’ll tell you how it works.

This week I attended a meditation with a well-known spiritual figure, John De Ruiter. Now the thing about John’sessions is that he sits up front in silence until someone is moved to ask a  question. So for two hours it was an eyes-open meditation. That’s when I recognise my own. It’s the men of a certain age who start fidgeting then just have to get up and ‘leave the room’. They are my fellow BPH sufferers.

My own case is actually getting  better. I only get up once a night now compared to at least two times, and I have less urgency that before – all of which I attribute to Cassie’s alkaline paleo diet.

But I still prick up my ears when I see new medical technology that may assist.

Take a look:

Is your dog’s health important to you?

I’ve been reading quite a bit recently about the relationship of dogs to the mental state of their owners. All articles seem to agree that a stressed master equals a stressed dog – and that dogs subjected to any form of intense stress can develop quite serious acidosis.

Learning that a cat or dog has something as dire sounding as metabolic acidosis, can make any pet owner concerned for their pet’s health. Metabolic acidosis is a complicated diagnosis because it may be a symptom of many other pet illnesses. Metabolic acidosis itself refers to the cat or dog’s body having an imbalance of acids and bases. Kidney damage, congenital kidney disease, diabetes, snake bites, and even ingesting antifreeze can all lead to metabolic acidosis and overall poor pet health.

Metabolic Acidosis Symptoms

Often owners are unaware that their cat or dog has this condition in the early stages as it can be a silent illness with no symptoms. In later stages of the disease, pets (both cats and dogs) may vomit, be lethargic, and stumble when walking. Pets may also have weight loss without explanation.

So when I saw this study below, I realised that we have an answer for the serious dog owner that will assist their dog and, as a side benefit, themselves. It’s alkaline ionized water. Here’s the study abstract:

Metabolic acidosis can occur as a result of either the accumulation of endogenous acids or loss of bicarbonate from the gastrointestinal tract or the kidney, which represent common causes of metabolic acidosis. The appropriate treatment of acute metabolic acidosis has been very controversial. Ionized alkaline water was not evaluated in such groups of patients in spite of its safety and reported benefits. So, we aimed to assess its efficacy in the management of metabolic acidosis in animal models. Two models of metabolic acidosis were created in dogs and rats. The first model of renal failure was induced by ligation of both ureters; and the second model was induced by urinary diversion to gut (gastrointestinal bicarbonate loss model). Both models were subjected to ionized alkaline water (orally and by hemodialysis). Dogs with renal failure were assigned to two groups according to the type of dialysate utilized during hemodialysis sessions, the first was utilizing alkaline water and the second was utilizing conventional water. Another two groups of animals with urinary diversion were arranged to receive oral alkaline water and tap water. In renal failure animal models, acid-base parameters improved significantly after hemodialysis with ionized alkaline water compared with the conventional water treated with reverse osmosis (RO). Similar results were observed in urinary diversion models as there was significant improvement of both the partial pressure of carbon dioxide and serum bicarbonate (P = 0.007 and 0.001 respectively) after utilizing alkaline water orally. Alkaline ionized water can be considered as a major safe strategy in the management of metabolic acidosis secondary to renal failure or dialysis or urinary diversion. Human studies are indicated in the near future to confirm this issue in humans.

Leo McDevitt, here’s to you.

With every change in our lives the naysayers line up to convince you that you are on the wrong track. If pure logic doesn’t work, guilt comes second. Here’s a post I got from a guy who works for (I assume) Life ionizers, sellers of a Korean assembled electric ionizer:

He was referring to the imminent release of our new Ultrastream non-electric water ionizer’s use of magnesium to ionize output water.

“Magnesium doesn’t provide a proton donor in alkaline water, It is balanced by a hydroxyl ion. Magnesium hydrate in alkaline water is: Mg++(aq) + OH-(aq) = Mg2OH(aq) + H2O.

You cannot produce a proton donor in alkaline water. You need an acid – like Ascorbic Acid – to donate a proton to the reaction.

Pseudoscience hurts the alkaline water industry. (Ian: The guilt card) Please read the Japanese antioxidant studies carefully. Those studies make it clear that you must have a proton donor to unlock the antioxidant effect of alkaline water.”

I sent Leo an emailed response, but never heard from him again. Here’s our reply:

“Hi, Leo,

just checking your equation. Mg++(aq) + OH-(aq) = Mg2OH(aq) + H2O.
Not sure it’s correct.

Magnesium is a base once it combines with water and the chemical formula that your are using is not entirely correct: the reaction that takes place is Mg (s) + 2H2O(g) -> Mg(OH)2(aq) + H2(g)
Mg(OH)2 – magnesium hydroxide is alkaline.

You are more than than welcome to test this procedure yourself and check the before and after results
We would welcome you to our office where you can do the experiments and we are happy to film that as well.

I am sure you are aware of our many years of water ionizer experience. It took us a  while to realise what we had here too. The University lab tests we carried out shocked us too.”

Yes, shocked about how darn good they were! Now here’s the real news: magnesium, according to this study, is about the best defence possible against heart disease. To quote,
‘A lower incidence of cardiovascular diseases has been observed in areas with hard water. However, numerous debates and controversies prevailed over time. Some scientists had been trying to correlate cardio-protective factor of hard water while others were working on the toxic factor of soft water with this geo-selective predisposition to cardiovascular events. Now the factor unanimously agreed upon can be concluded as Magnesium. The proofs in favour of Magnesium(Mg) come from studies reporting (i) sudden deaths in areas with Mg deficient drinking water, (ii) low myocardial Mg content in sudden death cases, (iii) cardiac arrhythmias & coronary artery vasospasms being precipitated by Mg deficiency and (iv) intravenous Mg reducing the risks of Arrhythmias & deaths immediately after Acute Myocardial Infarction. Magnesium is a structural component of cardiac muscle and is required by as many as 1300 enzymes for different biochemical reactions. It is an important co-factor for ATPase; hence, is needed in every cell. Mg modulates cellular events involved in inflammation and is important for proteolytic enzymes, which counteract inflammation.”

Now here’s some more real news. Your electric ionizer doesn’t add magnesium to your water.

If there is magnesium in your tap water, it will concentrate it so that you’ll get the same effect as drinking  2 glasses of water. But it adds NO minerals, only concentrating the calcium and magnesium in your water. Now.. to put things in perspective, it’s still good, because if you drank 8 glasses of tap water before drinking water from your electric water ionizer, you now get the magnesium effect of around 14 glasses without the added H20.

That’s why we were so excited to receive our University Independent lab report. It showed consistent donation of magnesium over the whole life of the filter. magnesium coming FROM the UltraStream, which adds to the magnesium already in the tap water. So you are guaranteed a daily dose of slow release magnesium no matter how mineral-deficient your tap water!

Bullies and Sugar

I watched a heart-rending doco last night set in the US MidWest all about bullies in schools. It traced the tragic stories of kids seta apart by their looks or sexual orientation and subjected to continual violence – both mental and physical. Cassie and I were both shocked and dismayed, but some interesting points arose for us.

1. The teachers accepted that bullying was here to stay and (obviously hamstrung by budgets) they admitted to not being able to manage the daily violence on the buses to and from school.

2. The parents, totally unskilled in counselling their kids, vented their frustrations and anger on the kids, actually blaming the kids. You could see the poor kids’ last glimmer of hope dying on their parents’ words.

3. The bus driver are apparently no longer able to intervene.

But it was one scene that really caught my eye. It was of one of these unfortunate kids going back to school after holidays, meeting two school mates at the bus stop and being immediately verbally savaged by the bullies. The kids seemed high on excitement and suddenly it hit me; these kids -a ll of them – were high on sugar and carbs! This is the US MidWest. People don’t know about the effect sugar has on them .They eat sugar pops, donuts and fruit juice for breakfast! And then they go out to meet the world on a sugar high.

Their parents are the same. And I remembered how my mind worked when i too was a sugar/carbs/acidhead. They know not what they do.

Coconut Oil for Osteoporosis?

It’s only a study of mice, but I’m into hope, and a few mice are enough evidence for me to get excited. (Especially as I was diagnosed with Osteoporosis last year.. and I take coco oil every day for mY incipient Alzheimer’s.
Here’s the link to the study. Let me know whether it’s enough for you to take coco oil regularly.
