The ÖKO water filter bottle
Safe and Clean drinking water from taps, creeks, streams, and rivers.
No Forced Pressing, No Suction, No Chemicals! Just Fill & Drink
Not All Water Bottles Are Created Equal
Swiss engineered, our bottles and filters deliver pure water fast. They work by simply filling and squeezing the bottle as you would with any sport bottle. No chemicals, no hard pressing, and suction or straws.
They are made of FDA complaint food grade materials which are odorless and do not emit chemicals in warm weather. They are also BPA and phthalate free, yet they are powerful enough to filter bacteria, pathogens, protozoa, some virus and a host of other contaminants from water sources all around the world.
Our filter media, developed for NASA® is simply the state-of-the-art in water filtration. The soft squeezable bottle allows versatility in use with no excess pressure.
Why A Squeeze Bottle?
The soft squeezable design allows versatility with no extra effort. Simply fill the bottle with water, secure the cap/filter and squeeze it to drink. This action creates the pressure needed to force water through the filtration system.
Miles above the earth, the International Space Station is where our filtration technology was originally used.
The ÖKO water filter bottle combines water filtration technology that was originally designed for use in the International Space Station. It’s an elegant bottle design made of 100% FDA-compliant materials. This combination gives us a unique filtration bottle: lightweight, versatile, and able to deliver the very highest quality water from innumerable water sources in over 140 countries.
The 650ml bottle has a filter capacity of 580 refills, and the 1L bottle has a filter capacity of 380 refills (filter capacity 380 litres)
The ÖKO level-2 filter (included with every bottle) has been lab-tested to remove 99.99% of Giardia Lamblia & Cryptosporidium, two of the most common contaminants found in water worldwide.

ÖKO Filters and How They Work
We’ve chosen to equip all bottles to come Equipped With our ÖKO Level-2 advanced filter.
Our choice, ÖKO Level-2 filtration, was originally developed for NASA and used in the ISS (International Space Station). We adapted this technology for consumer use in our bottles. From our perspective and experience, it’s state-of-the-art water filtration technology. There is no portable water filter like it in the world.
A 2-micron pore size means fast flow. The ÖKO media utilises a positively charged electro-adsorption (attraction and retention) process. This draws and traps harmful agents far, far smaller than its pore size. Charge fields, activated upon water contact, extend into the 2-micron gap between them to virtually close the pore to any intruding agents.
ÖKO level-2 filter lab tests show the removal of 99.994% of e-coli, 99.9999% of Cryptosporidium and Giardia Lamblia, the most commonly found bacteria and microorganisms in lakes, streams and less ‘managed’ water sources in many less developed countries. Here’s a stack of over 400 such pores in the 0.8mm thickness of the filter, creating a “tortuous path” that is a harmful agent would have to travel through in order to make it across the filter membrane. To check what level of filtration is recommended while travelling in different countries worldwide, see the ÖKO ON THE GO Chart. The OKO filter bottle provides protection at L1 and L2 level, but not for water supplies listed at L3 or ATR level.
Here at AlkaWay, we have a long, long history of searching the world for the best and safest water bottles for travellers.
Many years ago I spent 2 weeks in a Nepalese hospital with dysentery from water, and I would never wish that experience on anyone. I dropped 20 kg.
If I had this technology, then…
Because filtration technology is always getting better, we never stop looking. We’ve been watching this filter technology for about 8 years. It originally came from Scandinavia and was ridiculously expensive. Today, it’s made in the USA, has come down in cost, and we have already been installing systems for the whole of house and benchtop filters where absolute water safety is demanded. The original inventors call it medical-grade water filtration, and they are right, but for me, it’s important because it gets over the old problem all high-performance filters have had. OKO flows easily AND filters finely at the same time. And in the heart of Rajasthan or the wilds of Namibia, that is BIG.
This is the biggest breakthrough in water filtration that I’ve seen in the last 18 years, especially in its ability to exclude the traveller’s nemesis, parasites, cysts, bacteria, and viruses. They’re the little beggars that will bring your dream holiday to a sudden end. And that, dear friends, isn’t made any better by expensive travel insurance. As far as I’m concerned, the least expensive, most effective ‘travel insurance is a good water filter bottle AND a spare filter just in case!
