Take the guesswork out of filter replacement with the AlkaWay FLM-3 Water Flow Monitor.
Designed for compatible undersink and benchtop water filtration systems, the FLM-3 measures the amount of water passing through your system and keeps a running total of water usage.
Instead of relying solely on a calendar-based replacement schedule, you can monitor actual water consumption and set an alarm to remind you when your filter has reached its recommended usage volume.
Where would I position it under the sink?
You could mount the FLM-3 inside the cabinet where the display can easily be seen, after the filter and before your tap.
The FLM-3 does not measure filter condition directly. Instead, it records the volume of water that has passed through the filtration system, allowing you to set a usage-based replacement reminder according to the cartridge’s rated capacity.
Where would I position it on the benchtop?
You could position the FLM-3 after the filter where the display can easily be seen before your tap, or you could simply hide it behind the filter.
Easy ¼-inch hose Installation
The FLM-3 is compatible with a standard ¼-inch water-filter tubing.
The tubing simply pushes into the fitting and is held in place by an internal gripping mechanism and seal.
To remove the tubing, press the small locking collar on the fitting while pulling the tube out.
No thread tape is required for the tubing connections.
How to Install the FLM-3
1. Turn off the water
Turn off the water supply to your filtration system.
Open the filtered-water tap to release any pressure in the tubing.
2. Locate the filtered-water line
Identify the ¼-inch tubing running from your filter to the filtered-water tap.
3. Disconnect or cut the tubing
Separate the tubing at the appropriate point to allow the FLM-3 to be installed inline.
4. Connect the IN side
Push the tubing coming from the filter firmly into the IN connection on the FLM-3.
5. Connect the OUT side
Connect another section of compatible ¼-inch tubing from the OUT connection of the FLM-3 to the filtered-water tap.
The installation should look like:
Filter → IN [ FLM-3 ] OUT → Tap
6. Install the batteries
Install the supplied two AA batteries.
7. Turn the water back on
Slowly restore the water supply and inspect all connections carefully for leaks.
8. Test the meter
Turn on the filtered-water tap.
The FLM-3 should detect the flow and display the current flow rate.
9. Set the usage alarm
Set the programmable alarm according to the recommended water capacity of your filter cartridge.
Why use a water flow meter?
Filter life can vary considerably between households.
A household of one person may use considerably less filtered water than a family of four. Similarly, a system that is used primarily for drinking water may process much less water than one used for drinking, cooking and other purposes.
The FLM-3 helps you monitor this usage.
For example, if your filter cartridge has a recommended capacity of 3,000 litres, you can set the FLM-3’s usage alarm to 3,000 litres, like the UltraStream Filter. When the meter reaches that volume, it will provide an audible reminder to check or replace the cartridge.
It’s a simple way to keep track of filter usage based on actual water consumption rather than simply time.
What does the FLM-3 display?
The large LCD screen provides two important measurements:
Current Flow Rate
The meter shows how quickly water is flowing through the system. For example: 2.5 L/min
Total Water Usage
The meter continuously records the total volume of water that has passed through it. For example: 1,847 L
This is the measurement you’ll primarily use for monitoring filter consumption.
Set your own filter replacement reminder
The FLM-3 features a programmable usage alarm.
Simply set the alarm according to the recommended capacity of your filter cartridge. For example: Filter capacity: 3,000 L FLM-3 alarm: 3,000 L
Once approximately 3,000 litres have passed through the meter, the FLM-3 sounds an audible alarm to remind you that it may be time to inspect or replace the filter cartridge.
Important
The FLM-3 measures water volume; it does not directly measure the condition of the filter.
The alarm should therefore be used as a convenient reminder based on the filter manufacturer’s recommended capacity. Other factors, such as water quality, sediment loading and the age of the cartridge, can also affect filter performance.
