Why Activated Alumina?
Activated Alumina (Al₂O₃) is one of the most widely used fluoride reduction media in residential, commercial, and municipal water treatment applications.
Its highly porous structure provides a large surface area that attracts and holds fluoride from water as it passes through the filter.
Safe & Stable Filtration
Activated Alumina is:
- Chemically stable
- Insoluble in water
- A proven water treatment media used worldwide
- Designed for long-term filtration performance
Activated Alumina is a stable aluminium oxide compound and is not the same as free aluminium. Under normal operating conditions, it is designed not to dissolve into treated water.
Fluoride Reduction Performance
Activated Alumina performance depends on:
- Flow rate
- Contact time
- Water pH
- Fluoride concentration
- Water hardness
- Remaining media capacity
Cartridge Specifications
This cartridge uses USA Activated Alumina media technology designed for controlled flow operation to maximise fluoride adsorption.
Cartridge Size:
20″ Big Blue
Recommended Flow Rate:
Up to 7.75 L/min (2.0 GPM)
Fluoride Capacity:
Approximately 23,350 ppm fluoride capacity
Equivalent capacity:
- Approx. 23,350 litres at 1 ppm fluoride
- Approx. 11,675 litres at 2 ppm fluoride
Actual service life depends on incoming fluoride concentration and water conditions.
Water Hardness Considerations
Activated Alumina performance can be affected by high hardness levels.
Based on recommendations:
- Above 100 ppm hardness: fluoride capacity may reduce by approximately 50%
- Above 200 ppm hardness: fluoride capacity may reduce by approximately 75%
For best performance, water quality should be tested before installation.
Expected Filter Life
Cartridge life depends on:
- Household water usage
- Fluoride concentration
- Water hardness
- Amount of treated water passing through the filter
Homes using primarily rainwater may experience longer cartridge life because rainwater generally contains little or no fluoride.
Homes using fluoridated town water will use the fluoride capacity of the media more quickly.
Ideal For
This Activated Alumina fluoride filter is ideal for:
✓ Homes connected to fluoridated town water
✓ Families wanting fluoride reduction throughout the home
✓ Whole-house filtration systems
✓ Homes using mixed rainwater and town water supplies
✓ Customers wanting cleaner water for drinking, cooking, showering, and bathing
