UltraStream Stainless Steel Sleeve

$49.00 inc. GST

The stainless steel sleeve is primarily aesthetic. It gives the UltraStream a premium look and adds a bit of external durability, but it isn’t part of the filtration itself. (See below for instructions on how to remove the sleeve if it is stuck).

The core filter housing of the UltraStream is food-grade plastic, and like all plastics, it can expand slightly with  prolonged contact with water, the plastic can expand just enough to create friction against the stainless steel sleeve, making the sleeve feel “stuck” or difficult to remove when you are changing your filter.

If the stainless steel sleeve is stuck, you can place the filter with the sleeve in the freezer for around 15–20 minutes. The internal plastic housing contracts slightly when cooled, which can help the sleeve slide off more easily.

Plastic has a higher thermal expansion coefficient than stainless steel. When you put the unit in the freezer, the plastic contracts slightly more than the stainless steel sleeve.

A couple of things to note when trying to remove the sleeve:

  • Do not freeze for extended periods (no hours or overnight).
  • Ensure the unit is dry on the outside before placing it in the freezer.

  • Do not use force or tools to remove the sleeve.
