For some time now I’ve been pointing out that there are serious anomalies in the alkaline diet as purveyed by popular websites.
The point I have been making is that just because a fruit or vegetable has a few alkaline minerals shouldn’t automatically give it pride of place of the chart of ‘good’ alkaline supporting foods. Now the zookeepers at Paignton Zoo in Devon, England have removed bananas from their monkey’s diets. because of their research on the high sugar content of bananas. (See report here) Sugar is, no doubt, acidifying, and the sugar in bananas is the nastiest sort; fructose. So as I’ve been saying, the net effect of eating something should certainly be more important than whether it has some alkalis in it.
We are printing up a small booklet to distribute in health stores and I’m linking a .pdf version of it here so you can take a look at my reasoning.
I’ve called it ‘The Untold Truth About Alkaline balance’.
