About Our Water

Australia has many variations in water supplies. unfortunately, too many are acidic - and polluted.

This basic introduction to water details the common pollutants we unknowingly drink every day.

We can divide water into two basic forms;

Town Water

Tank Water

Town water varies greatly depending upon source. However it is usually dosed to disinfect it, using either chlorine or chloramines (a mix of chlorine and ammonia). It may also have added fluoride, plus mutagens, trihalomethanes (the result of chlorine or chloramines combining with organic material.

To balance the acidity caused by chlorine it also has added calcium carbonate.

In recent time we have seen a degradation of water quality and consistency in several capital cities, as a result of drought conditions. These unusual conditions have forced water managers to increase dosage of chemicals beyond normal limits to counter an increase in parasites.

Other towns have excess lead, iron and other metals in their water.

Tank Water lacks the chemicals used in town water, but it has its own set of problematic 'ingredients.

Usually collected from roof areas, tank water in agricultural areas often has high levels of pesticide or hormonal spray residues.

If fibre glass or plastic tanks are used the acidity of the water may be as low as pH4; close to Coca cola.

Almost all water tanks are also repositories for bacteria, worms and parasites.

They usually have high organic sediment content which is often stirred up by heavy rainfall. This organic sediment then makes its way into the home water system.

We recommend:   We recommend:

The BioStone filter is a nine stage filter using silver activated carbon and tourmaline. The silver activated carbon has antibacterial power, and the carbon absorbs chlorine, THM's, colour, odour, taste and smell. We have tested our water alkalisers and found a removal rate of 42%. For removal rates better than this we recommend a fluoride prefilter.

In certain areas we find a special KDF filter prevents excessive copper and iron passing through the alkaliser. This can be in the form of an internal Biostone filter or an external prefilter.

A sediment prefilter will increase the lifespan of your Biostone water alkaliser filter by removing sediment before it reaches the BioStone. in this way you'll save money on filter replacement costs.

A UV filter system is the most effective way to absolutely kill parasites and bacteria. We recommend the Water Guard system, as it will service the whole house.

Chlorine;

A potent carcinogen, chlorine is used to kill parasites and disinfect water.

Chloramines;

Chloramines are a cheaper version of chlorine.

Fluoride;

Usually added with the intention of preventing tooth decay, fluoride has many scientists campaigning against it due to reported adverse health effects. reduced in part by the ionisation process, in part by a prefilter.

Heavy Metals;

Heavy Metals may be in minute quantity but can have serious effects on internal healtrh.

Taste Odour Smell;

Removed or neutralised by carbon.

Pesticides;

neutralised by carbon.

Acidic Minerals;

removed by the ionisation process.
